| It's Early It's Late My Lettuce is Up in the Garden April 7, 2008 09:33:21 April 7th and my lettuce is just coming up. It was planted almost two weeks ago. Considering we have had only 4 days of sun those past two weeks I guess it is OK. I was concerned though because we have had several cold rainy days and not very warm nights. Also you can see in the pics below the ground has been beat down on this seed. When it gets like that it is probably best that it keeps raining so the seedlings can push through. Lettuce just coming up.
And the spinach, to my surprise, is coming up pretty good also.
I have had a hard time getting a good stand of spinach the last few years. Seems like conditions have always been not quite right. So maybe we will have a nice crop this spring. The ground is still cold and still wet. Today is the third day in a row of sunshine we have had with temps in the 60s. There was a nice breeze yesterday all day but it does not seem to have changed the soil conditions much. I need to get some onion sets in and would like to get some potatoes and cabbage planted but after just looking at things I can see the ground will not be able to be worked. In fact, it is just too wet to get out and remove the old mulch left in places from last year. What we need is sunshine and it is supposed to start raining again tomorrow. There were showers that went to the north of us yesterday and I was glad they missed us. Comment on this article | |
