My Designs ~ Green Living ~ Alternative Energy |
|
Green Organic Living Around this page are links to merchants who offer products online that might interest some of the readers of this site. I actually receive a small commission if a site visitor clicks on a link and buys something so help me out and support my site. Rather than put links to sites that offer doo-dads and lots of useless consumer goods to buy just to buy, I try to select merchants who have products that would be of use. I do not think we can buy our way into a green world or green lifestyle. But there are things we use and need just to live. Organic food has been around a while and has now hit mainstream sellers. Most grocery stores in this part of the country now have a small amount of organically grown foods, both fruits and vegetables and canned goods. If you live in one of the larger metro areas this might be ho-hum to you but it is still a little unique here in Central Illinois. While I buy most of our food at a locally owned Natural Foods store in Springfield, there are some things I buy in supermarkets also. But some of these retailers on this page and most of my other pages have products I might have a hard time finding around here. There is some crossover here between my alternative energy interests and my food growing efforts. Part of the merchants on this particular page offer tools and materials for those who want to actually do something to change their lives. It means work. It is something I always take the DIY approach. But, I might be able to make solar panels or a windmill, I think I might be able to buy something that would be better. So there are trade offs. I think growing food might be one of the best green activities there is because there is so much energy expended in growing commercial vegetables and fruits and delivering them to the consumer. This is true for organically grown vegetables as well as all the other stuff that is practically spilling out into the aisles in grocery stores. Locally grown organic food eliminates all that transportation energy so that is a good alternative or supplement to growing your own. One of the links you will see at the top of each page says My Designs. Yes some of this stuff is useless consumer goods. But, cloth shopping bags and tee shirts are something I use all the time and probably a lot of other people do also. I have always enjoyed creating graphic art and it is fun to see it on things other than a wall. There are some links here to tool sellers and the gardening places are places that have at least some organic products for sale. |
